The New Reality

During the time of Covid19, it has become clear how connected we are and how easily we can influence each other’s lives. This may seem scary and fragile, but if you ask artist Marie Retpen and sound artist Johannes Smed, the idea of global connectedness also represents something beautiful, which is worth focusing on.

As an illustration of this contrast, they have jointly created the visual and auditory work ‘The New Reality Can Also Be Beautiful’ for the Malt Factory in Ebeltoft.

The installation consist of glass drops with water that seem to drip down from the ceiling and are frozen in time. From several places in the room a soundtrack plays, which i.a. takes us to some of the places that are associated with Covid19. The soundtrack is connected to the drops in glass, and vibrations and sounds propagate in the liquid, where it creates patterns and sounds.
